Pernille Sørlie | Contemporary Textile Artist
Every material has a story.
The textiles I work with have already been part of someone's life — a bed sheet, a curtain, a piece of clothing. By giving these materials a new form they become a metaphor for life experiences, interpersonal relationships and private feelings.
For me, art is much more than aesthetics. Art is about reflection, feelings and about expressing themes in a different way than with words.
Through my work, I aim to create an experience, to give emotion a visual aspect and to create a personal encounter with my dystopian universe.

Pernille Sørlie is a Norwegian contemporary textile artist based in Oslo, working with embroidery and recycled materials.
Educated in fashion design at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, she now works within contemporary textile art.
Her work explores emotions, moods and psychological spaces — the visible and the invisible, the real and the unreal. Using acrylic paint, hand embroidery and textile appliqué, she creates tactile works rich in atmosphere and feeling.
Working within a grave-to-cradleperspective, she transforms discarded textiles and garments into new artworks. By adding emotional, intellectual and artistic value, she gives forgotten materials a new life and meaning.
